Early Elementary

The goal of the Early Elementary department is to lay a foundation of skills for success in the later years.  Social skills, empathy and respect for life are given equal time with reading, writing and arithmetic. Learning basics facts in science and social studies and engineering goes hand in hand with critical reasoning and  collaborative discussions.

Mrs. Colleen Petersen has a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Art from Oregon State University.  She is starting her 15th year of teaching at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School. Mrs. Petersen taught for five years when the school was in the downtown location and has experience in grades Kindergarten through third grade and PE.  Mrs. Petersen has been in Bend for 30 years and has three children who have graduated from St. Francis School.

First Grade

Mrs. Julie Manion has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from Oregon State University.  She has been teaching either First Grade or Kindergarten at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School for 21 years.  Mrs. Manion has two adult children who  graduated from our school.

Second Grade

Mrs. Brenda Raven holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. Her Master of Arts in Teaching degree and Reading Endorsement are both from George Fox University. She has ten years of experience at schools in the Bend-LaPine School District in Early Child Special Education and Title I Reading and Math. This will be her tenth year at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School.  Mrs. Raven sees herself as a lifelong/learner teacher. Her goal is to help children grow as independent readers and writers and to develop a love of books and reading that lasts a lifetime.   Mrs. Raven has three adult children and two grandchildren. The newest addition to her family is Daisy, her Collie puppy.
